According to the U.S. EPA, "Open burning of household waste in barrels is potentially one of the largest sources of airborne dioxin and furan emissions in the United States." AEHSP's Burnbarrel project, spearheaded by Chris Neurath, is working to raise awareness about the health hazards associated with the common practice in rural areas of burning garbage in backyard barrels.
